The 2011 Lake Jindabyne Dragon Boat Challenge will be held on Sunday 20thFebruary and looking to be the biggest yet. The Challenge is open to corporate, charity, novice, sports, juniors and your crew. No previous experience is necessary as training is provided on Saturday afternoon for all teams. All equipment will be provided and experienced helms will steer your boats.
Dragon boat racing is an exciting and competitive water sport which has rapidly grown in popularity as a relatively new sport in Australia. The forty foot long dragon boats are brightly painted and decorated with a dragons head and tail. Each crew has twenty paddlers 10 on each side and 2 abreast with the paddlers attacking the water as a team races the 200 metres with a drummer to keep time and a steerer to control the boat. All boats along with drummer and steerer will be provided along with pre training for all teams. Typically 4 - 6 boats in a race.
The races are exciting and spectacular adrenaline charged sprint. Dragon boating is by Nature a social sport requiring large numbers of people to work together. It develops strength and endurance as well as friendships.

A Team consists of 20 people (50/50 male/female) plus the sweep and drummer provided. The race distance will be approx 200m and each team will be guaranteed 2 races with a semi final and Grand Final.
Safety and skills training, carried out by Dragon Boat NSW will be held on Saturday afternoon with all race events on Sunday
Corporate Team - $1000
The Corporate team entry includes:
- Team Entry fee for 20 people (50/50 male/female paddlers) generally from one commercial business. Also covers equipment training and public liability insurance for all team members. (sweep and drummer provided);
- Reserved area in a prime position near commentary tent: 3 x 3 metres;
- Corporate banner placement in a prominent area along the foreshore;
- Acknowledged on the day as a sponsor of an individual heat;
- Acknowledged as sponsor on posters and flyers leading up to the event.
Community Crew - $620
- Community Team consists of 20 people (50/50 male/female paddlers). Cost Includes: equipment, training
and public liability insurance for all team members (Sweep and drummer provided).
SNOWY HYDRO JUNIOR TEAM CHALLENGE
Junior Team - ENTRY COVERED BY SNOWY HYDRO
(students 12 16 years)
- Junior Team consists of 20 people, (50/50 male/female paddlers) Entry includes: equipment, training
and public liability insurance for all team members. (sweep and drummer provided).
Sporting Teams - $500
Team Composition - as per the category definitions and race rules;
- All teams must have a minimum of 16 paddlers , 1 drummer and 1 sweep to a maximum of 20 paddlers,
4 reserves, 1 drummer, 1 sweep;
Premier Mixed Crews
- Maximum of 10 males paddlers (excludes drummer and sweep);
Premier Women's Crews
- All female paddlers (must have a female drummer & sweep);
Premier Open Crews
Masters Mixed Crews
- Maximum of 10 males paddlers (excludes drummer and sweep). All paddlers must be over 40 years (as
of 01st June) drummer and sweep can be younger (min 12 years).
Masters Women Crews
All female paddlers. All paddlers must be over 40 years (as of 01st June) drummer and sweep can be
younger. (min 12 years).
Every team must use a DBNSW Accredited sweeps. "p" sweeps must wear orange vests. All sweeps
must get their names ticked off by the Chief Marshall. Compulsory for all Team Members to wear
current ID Tags.
Note: teams with 2 teams in the same category, must collect coloured wrist bands from Registration for
each team to wear, to make it eaiser for quick identification. Teams can have up to 4 paddlers
interchange between the 2 teams (i.e 2 mixed teams)
